£4,506.34 compensation awarded to injured rider by the court

Mr M and his partner were on their way home from a hack and were riding single file along a country lane. Mr M was riding behind his partner and noticed an approaching car slowing to pass them.

As the passing car moved alongside the riders, Mr M heard a loud screeching of tyres behind him. Mr M looked behind to see a car (the Defendant) skidding towards them. The car collided with the horse’s hind legs. Mr M managed to stay on his horse but the collision was forceful enough to deploy Mr M’s point 2 air jacket. Both Mr M and his horse sustained injuries as a result of the collision.

Although the Defendant was quick to admit liability her insurers were unwilling to increase on the initial low offer of £2,823.60 which included no provision for the care & assistance Mr M’s horse required during its recovery. We advised the Claimant to instruct us to issue court proceedings. Mr M was awarded damages in the sum of £4506.34 at the final hearing.
