Damages for horse injured by low flying Russian jet fighter

HorseSolicitor’s Hanna Campbell was instructed to claim damages against the MOD on behalf of a client whose racehorse sustained injuries as a result of a low flying aircraft.

This aircraft was identified by the MOD as an Antonov 124.

The circumstances of the accident were that our client’s horse was grazing. Our client was about to bring his horse in from the field and noted that the aircraft came over without attempting to gain height. As a result of this incident the horse badly damaged its tendons and was unable to race again.

The MOD initially offered only a portion of the value of the horse and not its full purchase value. After negotiating our client was compensated for the full value of the horse, a percentage of the fee for qualifying with the hunt/Weatherbys certificate, the stabling/care costs, shoes and loss of use.
